DIY Chatelaine

IMG_3474.jpg picture by seshet27

Chatelaines are clips or pins that you wear at the waist, with chains to hold things that you need. I wanted one. I needed one. You know, because I work at a living history museum. Occasionally. All right, I just wanted to be fancy when I sewed things. Unfortunately, I do not have a million kajillion dollars, as indeed you need. Instead, I used:

*A gold ish pin from the thrift store
* Chain
*Lobster clasps
Total cost: about $3.

Comparison: $70.99

Then you need some things to put on it!

Like storky scissors! They were about $7.

And a seam ripper encased in wood, made by your darling husband. This... is probably the thing I use most.

A pin cushion!

It is made of $1 worth of jewelry finding type stuff I found at the craft store, sandwiching a ball of fabric filled with fluff.

This was the inspiration. Cost: $39.99
The tape measure is a retractable Singer tape measure. I'm still figuring out how to make it fit the rest of the set. Probably I will recover it with brown leather. Anyway, it's a darn sight better than paying $54.99.
