A hat of corduroy (for because it is washable, unlike his other wool one). The vest was a hand-me-down. It's nice though, chocolate-brown wool. I mended a lot of holes, replaced the buttons with the snazzy brass ones, and found a $13 pocket watch at Wal-Mart. I then took apart a bracelet I do not wear and attached a small golden bear to the fob. Because it is dandy.

The shirt used to be a dress that I found at a thrift store. I loved the top, but the bottom was just too snug. The bottom is made from Butterick 4803, in a linen-cotton blend. I sort of cloned this skirt.
You may recall this coat from earlier. I made it from an Army blanket I found in my closet from Butterick 5272. It didn't fit like I wanted to, because I screwed up the sizing and did a crap job on the buttons. I tailored it and replaced the buttons with clasps, and now I like it much more.

I also made most of this earlier from Simplicity 4055, but again, I screwed up the sizing and had to do terrible things to make it fit. Finally I gave up, ripped off the top, and did it again from scratch. Much better!

Irreparable pair of jeans into purse. The idea for the closure comes from here. Thanks!

I found this dress at the thrift store as well. I added snaps between the buttons, because they gap reeeeeeally bad whenever you do anything but stand up really straight. That is probably the reason it made its way to the thrift store. ;) I really like it, it's got a 40's vibe. It's even got pockets!

Ron calls this my 60's Air Hostess dress. He is not wrong. It is from Simplicity 2403, in a linen-cotton blend. It's got pockets too! Hooray.
In point of fact, I call it her sexy sixties air hostess dress.
ReplyDeleteNicely done!
ReplyDeleteOh my, these are all great. The bag turned out super and the dresses beautiful! My favorite item you made, however, is the army blanket coat!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for letting me know!
Best, Kathrin
Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever followed the blog New Dress a Day at http://newdressaday.wordpress.com/? It is really neat about someone that buys thrift store items and remakes them. Her limit is a buck a day. I immediately thought of this when I saw your post.
ReplyDeleteWish I was talented like that....(sigh).
Yup! She is pretty darn talented
ReplyDeleteYou did make the same dress, along with many others. I am glad to know that I wasn't the only one left with ill feelings. You are quite the little seamstress-way to be.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Seriously, so matronly.
